Water Quality Field Technician (Temporary)

Provo Water Company Ltd. is seeking a suitably qualified individual to join our Water Quality and Laboratory Services Department on a temporary maternity cover contract, initially for 4 months.

This role will support daily water quality field operations, sample collection, basic water testing, laboratory support and data entry. It is a good opportunity for someone who is dependable, willing to learn and comfortable working both outdoors and in a laboratory setting.

Key Duties

The Water Quality Field Technician will assist with:

  • Water quality field investigations, water main commissioning, flushing, chlorine checks, sampling, follow-up testing and documentation.
  • Collecting water samples from approved sampling points, customer locations, storage tanks and field sites.
  • Carrying out basic field testing, including chlorine residual, pH, temperature, turbidity and other required checks.
  • Supporting basic laboratory testing after training.
  • Recording field readings, test results and observations accurately.
  • Entering data into computer systems, including laboratory and water quality records.
  • Preparing samples, labelling bottles, completing chain of custody forms and maintaining related laboratory records.
  • Following all health, safety, water quality and laboratory procedures.
  • Communicating professionally with team members, customers and other departments.

Other related duties as reasonably assigned.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of a laptop, tablet, email and data entry systems.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions and procedures carefully.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work full-time for the temporary 4-month period.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • A background in science, water quality, laboratory work, plumbing, utilities or environmental services would be beneficial. Previous fieldwork experience or experience using basic water testing equipment would also be an asset.

Working Conditions

This position involves both field and laboratory work. The successful candidate may be required to work outdoors in direct sunlight, rain, dusty areas, wet conditions and other field environments. The role may also involve standing, walking, lifting sample containers, driving to field locations and working safely around water infrastructure.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and training.
