CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Civil Engineering Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting and maintaining designs created by the Engineering department in the field of water Distribution for residential, commercial and industrial connections. The latter will assist the engineering department in all aspects of the maintenance and performance of Provo Water Company’s water distribution network.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a Civil Engineering Technician diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the civil engineering sector. Experience in the water utilities sector is favorable.
- Must be available for emergency calls on evenings and weekends according to rotational schedule.
- Knowledge of GPS surveying practices.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and Autocad.
- Must possess a valid TCI driver’s license.
- Must possess mechanical aptitudes.
- Must be able to work outside for prolonged periods of time.
- Have good communication skills and be able to work in a team environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Hot, dusty and wet conditions including open and confined spaces
- Active roadways and associated traffic noise levels
- Remote locations
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Engineering Department in assessing quotes and designing pipe layouts.
- Ensure proper civil engineering practices are applied in all phases of pipe layouts and installations.
- Analyse and treat data required for the proper management of the water distribution network.
- Plan and execute regular leak detection analysis and detection throughout the water distribution network.
- Maintenance and repair of the water distribution network.
- Assist in all the aspects of the exploitation of a water distribution network.
- Update and maintain the company’s GIS system.
- Execute AutoCAD drawings related to water network designs.
- Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
- Repair, maintain, replace or mend plumbing or broken pipes.
Execute testing and functions related to plumbing practices to detect and locate leaks. - Attend Emergency callout when necessary.
- Carry out all other duties as directed by the Engineering Manager.
- Respect and uphold strict Environmental and Health and Safety regulations.
SALARY: $40,000 USD per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
