FIELD TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Field Technician is responsible for performing field service work to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of water meters, service connections, and related equipment. This position plays an essential role in ensuring accurate metering, efficient operations, and reliable customer service. The Field Technician works under the supervision of the Senior Field Technician and provides direct support to daily field operations.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute work orders assigned through the Work Order Management System (Elements) and update records accurately.
- Install, replace, and repair water meters, electronic valves (e-valves), and related devices under direction.
- Conduct service connections and disconnections of water supply as instructed.
- Inspect meter chambers, manifolds and valves for leaks, unauthorized connections and defects (e.g., damaged lids etc.).
- Clean meter chambers and remove obstructions such as shrubs, debris, or objects blocking meter access or interfering with signal transmission.
- Update meter location and condition information into company systems.
• Assist contractors, engineers, and other departments during new installations or special field assignments. - Report irregularities, damages, safety hazards, or impediments to meter access to the Senior Field Technician.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Diploma/Certificate in Plumbing, Utility Operations or Mechanical Systems preferred.
- At least one to two years post-secondary education, apprenticeship, or vocational training in plumbing, utilities, or a related technical field.
On-the-job training provided; apprenticeship-level experience considered an asset. - Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Clean Police Record required.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Basic computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn field management software.
- Competent in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and field instruments.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
- Team player with a willingness to learn.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work involves both outdoor fieldwork and occasional office tasks.
Requires sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and standing for prolonged periods. - Frequent travel between sites; exposure to noise, dust, water, traffic, and all-weather conditions.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Must possess a full range of body movements, including the use of hands, feet, and fingers to operate equipment. Requires the ability to bend, crouch, and reach, as well as adequate vision and hearing to perform essential tasks.
Wages: $14.50 – $16.00 hourly, commensurate with training and experience.
